Fishing is done by using a Fishing Pole, Quick Fish Pole, or Carbon Fishing Pole on a body of water. Fishing gives you 2XP per catch and valuable items- not just fish. Fishing is required for many Quests, Lightning Quests, and Battlepasses.
How to Fish
- Cast your fishing pole with left click on a body of water.
- Hook the fish with right click once the bobber turns green.
- Reel the fish in with the R key.
- Once the fish is close enough, Pick it up with E. The fish will go into your Inventory.
Fishing Rods
There are three types of fishing rods:
- The Fishing Pole, a basic fishing rod with no special abilities
- The Quick Fish Pole, a fishing rod that instantly puts caught fish into your inventory
- The Carbon Fishing Pole, a rod that only catches non-fish items
You can also use the Quick Fish Talisman to add the behavior of the Quick Fish Pole to the two other rods. Using this talisman will have no effect if you are using a Quick Fish Rod.
Fishing Buffs
There are ways to increase the odds of getting better loot while fishing.
- The Fishing Buddy talent,
- The Fish Master gang talent,
- And Fishing off of a Yacht all yield better fish.
You can also decrease the odds of getting better fish by getting the Metal Hook leveling perk. This dilutes the loot pool with shipments that are worth very little (citation needed).
Fishing Loot
In Testing, fishing with a quick fish rod, the Fishing Buddy talent active, and the Fish Master Gang Talent generated 1,841,380/hr.
Fishing without a fishing buddy lead to much lower rates, at 771,453/hr.
